What do I use instead to use my dynamic speakers remotely, without spending $$$ on fancy alternatives?īluetooth is only cheap alternative. Plus no software support in airport utility. You can possibly use them but don't expect great things from products that came out in 2008 or earlier. and even earlier ones again like A1088 are antiques. don't expect wonders from N wireless gear. They maybe, should, be vaguely usable just as airplay devices. Many people need to downgrade to last of the 7.6.9 or earlier firmware going back to airplay1 to get them working. Note 7.8.1 added airplay2 compatibility but it often doesn't work. 7.8.1 was the last firmware that came out a few years ago and since Apple stopped production in 2018. What model Express and how many are you hoping to use.Īssuming your Express are Gen2. Many thanks in advance for your guidance, If not, do you have a suggestion on alternate path to achieving this? Using the requisite plug adapter, connect the extender's ethernet plug to either the receiver's audio jack or HDMI jack. Will the following work to duplicate the functionality I had with Airport?īuy an extender with at least one ethernet port Scoping out modern extenders, I see they only have ethernet jacks, perhaps all of an "IT OUT" variety: which sounds like they only work in one direction? I used the receiver's audio output jack and the audio jack on the Airport Express to make the connection. They are wired to a ☑3 year old Onkyo AV receiver (without USB or Ethernet jacks, but with audio and HDMI out jacks). I used the Express not so much to extend wifi signal (though it likely helped) but as a way to add ceiling speakers in our kitchen to the wireless network to be able to play audio from iOS devices over these speakers. No Airport Extreme I discovered means no functioning Airport Express. What to replace my Airport Express with? I've just swapped out my Airport Extreme router (400Mbps max) for an xFi Gateway: 600Mbps max. I did not know there was a firmware upgrade for the A1264 Express. No TC is showing up in the Airport Utility. Where does your wireless name, Time Capsule Wi-Fi Network come from? All names should be short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. STRONGLY recommend NOT using Apple recommended names. press and hold the reset button on the express with a pin for about 10sec. If you still have trouble start over with a reset. Once I removed ethernet and restarted the Airport Utility it settled back again. It does not show an error but the Express was flashing Amber and was clearly having issues. I did leave ethernet in to see if I got the same effect as you. Wait until the LED on the Express starts flashing and remove the ethernet plug. If you wish to switch over you must go to edit and fix the wireless configuration.Ĭlick on update at the bottom and continue. So go into the setup by clicking the Edit button. Notice the dotted line when connected via wireless becomes solid with ethernet. Here is mine set to join a wireless network.Īnd this is with ethernet. You cannot have the express plugged into ethernet AND set to join or extend wireless at the same time. and I think you have got the wireless setting wrong.

AIIB’s commitment to the Fund is USD30 million.ĪIIB’s Environmental and Social Policy (“ESP”) is applicable to this Project. The Fund achieved its final closing with USD186 million of committed capital on January 27, 2022. The Fund will target the following three types of companies for efficient, sustainable, and resilient infrastructure: (i) software, data and analytics (ii) technology-enabled products and (iii) technology-enabled services. The Fund will invest based on three premises: (i) climate change is already causing real, substantial damage and loss to businesses and communities globally (ii) little is being invested systematically to address the adaptation and climate resilience challenge and (iii) companies exist today that have technologies and solutions that can assess and address the risks and impacts being increased by climate change. The Fund is the first dedicated private equity investment strategy focused on climate resilience and adaptation solutions. I believe strongly in the power of values driven capitalism and operational excellence, and hope that the #UnitedStates can commit to prioritizing diplomacy with the aim of global stability and delivering transparent trade opportunities for the American (and global) economy. Trade and Development Agency trade delegation I joined last week was an example of the United States leveraging its convening authority to create legitimate relationships and communicate transparency and commercial values that made me very proud.Ģ) Increased recognition that the patriotic Military #Veterans that we sent into harm's way are adept and excellent, values aligned, diplomats that can communicate the best of American values and deliver #operationalexcellence in #VUCA environments. I want to see if we can capitalize on an opportunity to refocus our National Security Strategy on building a more sustainable and resilient approach that transparently prioritizes economic, social, environmental factors and global stability over projecting military might.ġ) The U.S. I would love to see humbler and more thoughtful foreign policies that prioritize economic, social, and environmental factors - alongside domestic policies that lead by example.Īs an American conducting business in #Africa I have a front row seat to see how the United States engages with a massive, exciting, heterogeneous and complicated continent with as many challenges as opportunities. My hope is that #America can continue to consolidate the learnings from massive failure. The big question for the world to evaluate is: "Can the United States embrace failures to shape how it develops and maintains relationships moving forward?" The Iraqi invasion was an investment of over $3 trillion and more 300,000 lives that failed to improve US National Interests and has served as a visible #turningpoint for #America - what Andrew Bacevich refers to as the "End of American Exceptionalism." On Wednesday I'll share more about how this realization is particularly relevant at this point in my career. I have seen how imposing my values and approach on others can be counter productive at best, and destructive at worst - despite excellent intentions. Reflecting on the failure of 20 years of war has offered me a chance to recognize painful failure parallels in my own life. Day 1 of 3 - #TurningPoint - Can America learn from 20 years of failure?Ģ0 years ago today I invaded #Iraq as a young #Marine Officer and participated in a massive experiment that ended in failure: dictators are horrible, but failed states have proven to be much more damaging. Sesame is a tropical annual herb that grows to about 60cm (24″) tall. In fact, this is really the key to success with sesame seeds, as we will outline in the following guide on how to grow sesame from seed. Rather they have a few blooms but continue producing for many months.Sesame is commercially produced in desert settings, so when we say it’s drought tolerant, we really mean it. The funny thing about plants like sesame and Ceratotheca is they don’t ever have a ton of flowers open at once. They crawl up into the flower, get covered with pollen and then move to the next flower, gathering nectar while ensuring seed will develop. It generally starts to bloom in early August and will continue until frost.īees are the main pollinator- specifically carpenter and honey bees. Here it grows about 2.5’ tall, with half that being the elongated flower stalk. It seems to only seed along bed edges, which is quite annoying, but I love the plant so I leave it alone. It has a slightly shorter growing stature than sesame, at least it does here in my foodscape. Suddenly my early experiences with this plant started to make sense! It is native to areas of South Africa that receive summer rainfall, especially grasslands, and is considered to be an “opportunistic annual”, because it germinate best in disturbed areas like roadsides. Turns out, the “wild foxglove” is also in the Pedaliaceae plant family- hence it’s close relation to sesame. Beyond that I never thought much about where it was from and what potential uses it had, other than the pretty blooms withstood the Carolina heat and humidity. The blooms would range in color from pink to white and I used to call it a southern hollyhock. I was first introduced to this self sowing annual while working at Montrose Gardens, where it would deposit seed into the gravel beds of the scree garden. I originally got my seed from Baker Creek Heirloom Seed, but they are not longer offering it- the search continues.Ĭeratotheca triloba is a beautiful summer flowering annual plant that I have grown for the past 20 years. indicum, and in my experience the two can cross pollinate easily. It is known as black benniseed or black sesame and is native to west and central Africa where it has been cultivated since ancient times. Sesamum radiatum is a closely related to traditional sesame, except it has darker pigmentation. It is an elegant, low maintenance summer annual. It is a plant I highly recommend incorporating into your landscape simply for its ease of growing and long term beauty. Sesame seed is one of the oldest oilseed crops known, domesticated well over 3000 years ago and has the distinction of having the highest oil content of ANY SEED! It is also remarkably drought tolerant, growing in conditions where other crops fail. Leading world producers include Tanzania, Myanmar, India, and Sudan. It is widely naturalized in tropical regions around the world and is grown for its edible seeds, which grow in pods. Sesamum indicum is the traditional cultivated type, also referred to as benne. Even though I take care to harvest the seed for culinary use and to share with others, a “few” (hundred) always manage to drop and germinate the following season. Now that it is well established in my garden, I find seedlings coming up on their own and, if growing in the wrong spot, can be moved with little effort. If you are transplanting sesame space it about 12-15” apart to allow for maximum development. Sesame is very versatile and can be grown as a transplant or from direct seeding. I recommend direct seeding as it is the easiest way to make a big impact. Most of the plants in my garden are well above my head now, thanks to the healthy Soil3 organic compost they grow in. Also recognize that sesame is best planted in the mid- back of your borders, as it can grow very tall. I have a few specimens that get only a few hours of direct light and they are half the size of the plants growing in full exposure. Grow in FULL SUN if you want the plants to be super productive. Here in central North Carolina USDA zone 7 I direct sow seeds anytime between Memorial day and Fourth of July. Sow the seeds after the soil has had a chance to warm up- ideally to 50F. Sesame is a warm season annual, just like marigolds or zinnias, from the Pedaliaceae plant family. It blooms all summer and looks like a foxglove on steroids! Turns out this native to India is an ideal plant for hot, humid regions and can reach upwards of 6’ tall in good soil. It took place in the time that basically everything was going to shit. "If you know our last two games, hope is not very high on our themes list," Stokalski said, laughing. I asked about the planet itself, and if it's still getting colder or if the climate is recovering and steering toward a warmer and potentially more hopeful future. In the 1980s, charge-coupled devices (CCDs) replaced photographic plates and reduced optical uncertainties to one milliarcsecond. Started in the late 19th century, the project Carte du Ciel to improve star mapping couldn't be finished but made photography a common technique for astrometry. Automated plate-measuring machines and more sophisticated computer technology of the 1960s allowed more efficient compilation of star catalogues. Astrographs using astronomical photographic plates sped the process in the early 20th century. īeing very difficult to measure, only about 60 stellar parallaxes had been obtained by the end of the 19th century, mostly by use of the filar micrometer. In 1872, William Huggins used spectroscopy to measure the radial velocity of several prominent stars, including Sirius. He made the first measurement of stellar parallax: 0.3 arcsec for the binary star 61 Cygni. His cataloguing of 3222 stars was refined in 1807 by Friedrich Bessel, the father of modern astrometry. The stellar movement proved too insignificant for his telescope, but he instead discovered the aberration of light and the nutation of the Earth's axis. James Bradley first tried to measure stellar parallaxes in 1729. When telescopes became commonplace, setting circles sped measurements Taqi al-Din measured the right ascension of the stars at the Constantinople Observatory of Taqi ad-Din using the "observational clock" he invented. In the 16th century, Tycho Brahe used improved instruments, including large mural instruments, to measure star positions more accurately than previously, with a precision of 15–35 arcsec. Like the earlier catalogs of Hipparchus and Ptolemy, Ulugh Beg's catalogue is estimated to have been precise to within approximately 20 minutes of arc. In the 15th century, the Timurid astronomer Ulugh Beg compiled the Zij-i-Sultani, in which he catalogued 1,019 stars. His observations on eclipses were still used centuries later in Simon Newcomb's investigations on the motion of the Moon, while his other observations of the motions of the planets Jupiter and Saturn inspired Laplace's Obliquity of the Ecliptic and Inequalities of Jupiter and Saturn. Ibn Yunus observed more than 10,000 entries for the Sun's position for many years using a large astrolabe with a diameter of nearly 1.4 metres. In the 10th century, Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi carried out observations on the stars and described their positions, magnitudes and star color furthermore, he provided drawings for each constellation, which are depicted in his Book of Fixed Stars. Hipparchus's successor, Ptolemy, included a catalogue of 1,022 stars in his work the Almagest, giving their location, coordinates, and brightness. Hipparchus compiled a catalogue with at least 850 stars and their positions. In doing so, he also developed the brightness scale still in use today. This can be dated back to Hipparchus, who around 190 BC used the catalogue of his predecessors Timocharis and Aristillus to discover Earth's precession. The history of astrometry is linked to the history of star catalogues, which gave astronomers reference points for objects in the sky so they could track their movements.
